Support

Investigating and litigating innocence claims often takes years, involving teams of lawyers, investigators, and experts.  This is incredibly expensive, and MAIP needs your help to do this work as effectively as possible so that the innocent people we represent can obtain their freedom.

To date, we have received more than 6,000 requests for help from prisoners and their families in our region. Our staff consists of two full-time attorneys, one part-time attorney, and a program assistant. We have no administrative personnel and no staff investigators, and only one attorney who is devoted full time to the litigation of MAIP cases.  We thus rely heavily on students and attorneys to help us process and investigate our cases.

If you are a student or lawyer in our region and would like to volunteer with our organization, please go to our Volunteer page for more information.

MAIP is always looking for volunteers who can help with our cases, and we are particularly interested in persons with forensic science expertise and in experienced investigators.  We also often have use for people with other skills, and we’re happy to hear your ideas for how you can help. Please visit our Volunteer page to sign up and obtain more information.

If you don’t have the time to volunteer in person, you can help from anywhere. Take action by writing letters to local newspapers, governors, and legislators regarding your concerns about our nation’s judicial system and wrongfully imprisoned individuals. Or, you can help us continue our work by making a financial contribution.

MAIP relies on support from individuals, schools, and law firms in order to keep working. We appreciate any and all contributions, no matter how small.
